Is Hustler Anti-Semetic?
That's the question being addressed by Larry Flint in his Op Statement this month. He had been criticized for running a cartoon that can be seen as anti-semetic, and he shared what he believed to be his position: "Hustler will continue to mock all minorities and ethnic groups in the same way my staff and I mock ourselves." He also writes "I think most of us can agree that a joke or cartoon poking fun at ethnic groups is harmless, regardless of content, provided the intention is not malicious or racist."
The problem with the last statement is that the judge and jury is ones self. We aren't always the best judge of what the members of that minority or ethnic class would think. It's more than whether they are offended - we can all be less sensitive. It's what portrays harm, which isn't good no matter what veil you use for protection.

Tropic of Desire - Fully Limp - I have to say that I categorically DISAGREE with this rating! While I do agree that the lighting is a problem in this film, and an occasional detractor, I find the execution of the story to be fun. This is where we get "Make You Forget About Rita!" as all the sailors are sad that their favorite Rita has gone back stateside to open a flower shop. Decent sex along with a weird fist fight by a group of sailors at the end which basically lays waste to the whorehouse. I give it at least half-erect, if not three-quarters!
